Dr. Anta Sane (Associate Consultant)

Dr. Anta Sane hails from Senegal, West Africa. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Howard University, Washington, DC. Her areas of concentration are Public Policy, Public Administration, and International Relations. Dr. Sane also holds dual Master’s degrees in Organizational Leadership and Change and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) concentration in Finance. Her undergraduate degree is in Communication and Journalism Studies, coupled with a minor in Black Studies. Dr. Sane has been nominated among the recipients of the 2012-2013 “Who’s Who Among Students in America.” Dr. Sane has over 12 years working experience in strategic planning, project management, banking, policy and market research, political analysis, coordination of youth leadership programs, and Global and African politics. Dr. Sane was a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Howard University in Washington, DC. She has also taught Politics of Third World Development and Global Politics at James Madison University in Virginia. Her areas of interest are Women in Politics, Gender and Governance, migration issues, youth empowerment, international and economic Development.

Dr. Sane’s professional career encompasses a diverse exposure in banking sales and service where she held different positions ranging from Personal Banker to Branch Manager. She has also been a consultant and a lead coordinator for the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa on projects dealing with different topics on Gender and governance within sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Sane’s humanitarian work includes an internship with The United Nations Population Fund agency in Dakar, Senegal, where she wrote an article about world population day in the United Nations Newsletter, and an advocacy plan to prevent maternal mortality. Dr. Sane has also represented the UNFPA to the National Assembly of Dakar, presenting a bill regarding health reproduction, sexual health and family planning.

Dr. Sane was also the first African to be elected to the position of President of the National Black Graduate Student Association in 2012. Since its foundation in 1989, she has been the 3rd person to be President two consecutive years. Dr. Sane is also a member of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in the United States. Every year, she is invited to participate to the Convention of Women Democratic Leaders, moments during which she has met President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice-President Joe Biden as well as Hillary Clinton. On several occasions, Dr. Sane has also been invited to several countries, conferences and institutions like the United Nations in New York and Geneva, to share her expertise about African and global politics, international relations as well as on youth leadership and entrepreneurship, moments during which she was able to meet and discuss with symbolic figures in Africa such as Jerry Rawlings of Ghana or Joaquim Chissano of Mozambique. Dr. Sane was also a Keynote Speaker on Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment at the 4th Annual Summit of World Summit of Mayors in June 2015, in Accra, Ghana. She presided over the jury of a Start-Up Competition assembling 28 young entrepreneurs for the 2nd edition of Chad Talents, in Chad in November 2015. In March 2016, Dr. Sane has been chosen for the cover of Emma Mag, a magazine about Women leadership and entrepreneurship, to celebrate International Women’s Day. Dr. Sane has also been chosen in March 2016 as a member of the Advisory Council for Sojourner’s Circle, the DNC’s new plan to engage Black women in Democratic electoral politics. Dr. Sane was the guest of first lady Michelle Obama in June 2016 for the first United States of Women summit organized by the White House. Dr. Sane has been the guest of the President of the United States, Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House in December 2014.
